Tom Sawyer Whitewashes a Fence

Weather-Weather-Wait-Wait-What?

Cast: 2F, 1M. (30 minutes)

A funny and moving play about the post-apocalyptic effects of climate change - with teenage love, a tipsy host, a brave kid on a motorcycle, and scenes performed from a high school production of Our Town.

Percentage America

Cast: 2F, 1M. (25 minutes)

On a first date, it is obvious that Arial and Andrew both lied on their dating profiles. When they reveal the truth it’s aphrodisiacal. They want more, so they decide to decipher the truth in everything. They start with a news story about a young girl who was arrested at the Whitehouse. The culture of politics within media stuns them both.

Kim Jong Rosemary

Cast: 3F. (30 minutes)

A male playwright (played by a female actress) interrupts his own play to rationalize his right to examine female rage. He is challenged by the mother and daughter within the play. A storage bag for anger, a sudden moment of dance, and a vision of the fifth generation daughter of Kim Jong Un saves the day.

Ergo

Cast: 2F, 1M. (10 minutes)

Now that the family realizes climate change is really happening, a daughter makes her parents pay the price for being active climate change deniers by locking them in their storage unit on voting days.

No Preying

Cast: 2F, 1 large bug. (15 minutes)

A restaurant owner puts up a sign that warns his patrons there can be No Praying before meals. Two women discuss the sign, when a large praying mantis sits down at the table next to them.

Hit Story

Cast: 3F, 2M. (30 minutes)

If American anger manifested in the body, what would the symptoms be? Harry and his family fight his new disease - an involuntary and unpredictable flailing of his fists. To contain it, they put him in a boxing ring with a psychiatrist, his mother, his sister, and one of his students.

Anarchy of a Pin Boy

Cast: 2F, 1M. (15 minutes)

A girl who is forced to participate in her mother’s bowling league is visited by a pin boy from the 1950’s. She likes him. They kiss. They pull back in horror, when it feels wrong. Is he her father?

Art Control

Cast: 1F, 1M, 6 others. (15 minutes)

Every great work of art has a gun in it, right? In this play everybody has a gun, and everybody is pointing their gun at everybody else. Until the police arrive without guns. Now the director and the playwright have to get involved, until the props guy explains it all.

A Geometric Digression of the Species

Cast: 1F, 1M, 5 others. (25 minutes)

Alex and Evelyn are sitting in an empty restaurant relishing the “luxury of space.” But they are eventually asked to leave since the prep cook needs their parking spot. Neither wants to return to their cramped life with eleven children. Their marriage slowly dismantles, Evelyn walks out, and Alex’s restaurant space is invaded by a few cramped audience members. The mutiny continues until the theatres parking attendant announces that the audience must also leave “cuz we got no room for your cars.”

The Business of…

Cast: 2M. (10 minutes)

Two men await their fate after being indicted for insider trading. They lie, they accuse, and eventually it’s a musical.

The Seducing of Things Past

Cast: 2F, 3M. (10 minutes)

A man onstage rhapsodizes about the woman who left him when a woman in the audience stands and claims to be her. Then a man in the audience claims she isn’t her because she’s his ex-wife. Then the real woman appears in the audience with her current lover, and after they edit the playbill, everyone’s happy.

Adapted freely from Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. (This play was written and performed for the US. Supreme Court for a mock trial of Tom Sawyer for violating laws of commerce.)
